Have a great idea for a business or project that could have a positive impact on your community? Come visit CBC Newfoundland and Labrador at the Social Innovation Challenge.

This year, the challenge is happening in two locations:

  • Corner Brook on Saturday, April 27 at the MUN Grenfell Campus Airport Lounge, University Avenue.
  • St. John's on Saturday, May 4 at First Light Centre for Creativity and Performance (formerly Cochrane Centre), 42 Bannerman St.

Participants in the challenge are asked to bring an idea for a social impact business that would offer a socially or environmentally sustainable product or service.

"We often hear of organizations and governments and sectors working in silos, whereas collectively they may be able to unlock much greater impact," said Joshua Fernandes, event and community manager with the United Church of Canada's EDGE network.

"There are no shortage of environmental, social and financial problems in our world, so to support everyday folks who have a hunger to address a problem they are passionate about is something everyone can get behind."

The Media Pitch booth gives participants a chance to make the best impression on members of the CBC team. Our journalists will provide practical advice on how to stand out in a sea of news releases, and how to shape a story so that it captures the imagination of producers and audiences.

The top media pitcher will be featured on CBC Newfoundland and Labrador.

Plus, all participants will get a chance to work with business mentors on perfecting your pitch and getting your business off the ground.

Participation is free, and no experience necessary.
