After five years on the job, College of the North Atlantic president Ann Marie Vaughan is being replaced.

The provincial government said on Monday that Vaughan's contract, which concluded July 31, would not be renewed, and they will fill her position through the new Independent Appointments Commission.

In the meantime, the government has installed Bob Gardiner, an assistant deputy minister in the Department of Advanced Education and Skills, as the interim president of the college.

"Gardiner brings exceptional skills and knowledge to the position," wrote Education Minister Gerry Byrne in a press release.

"I have every confidence that he will demonstrate the same leadership and vision at the college as he has with the Department of Advanced Education and Skills."

Gardiner has worked with the provincial government since 2001, and was promoted to Assistant Deputy Minister in 2013.
