Gerry Antle, the city's director of infrastructure and public works, told CBC the incident was reported mid-morning.

Antle said the problem stemmed from a broken hydraulic hose on the vehicle, and it was hydraulic oil that spilled onto the pavement.

He said the spill was the length of "10 to 15 houses" on Moores Drive.

Antle said city crews have used a granular absorbent material that is commonly used for oil spills.

He added that crews will remain at the scene until the spill has been completely cleaned up.
