Clara Hughes catches a sled ride in snow-packed Nain

Snow on the ground in the Inuit community of Nain in northern Labrador didn't stop Olympian Clara Hughes from completing a leg of her tour to promote mental health.

Hughes was astride her bicycle as she led a parade through Nain — but she didn't have to pedal. People in the town arranged for her bike to be mounted on a sled so that she could travel over the road, which is still covered in snow.

She said it was one of the highlights of her cross-country bike ride.

"It blew my mind, I couldn't believe it," said Hughes.

"And then they said, 'Well, do you think you could ride it?' and I was like, 'Are you kidding?' This is the best ride ever."

Hundreds of people in the small community turned out for the parade, which included a party with cake.

Hughes launched Clara's Big Ride in Toronto in March, and is making an elliptical trip around the country that is poised to move to  the North before heading to B.C. and then across the prairies.

She ended her tour of Newfoundland and Labrador in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Wednesday.

The tour, which is sponsored by the Bell Let's Talk campaign to promote discussion of mental health, is scheduled to end in Ottawa on Canada Day.

Hughes, who won Olympic medals in cycling and speed skating, is a national spokesperson for the Let's Talk campaign.
