Committee challenging Whitbourne Elementary closure in N.L. Supreme Court

With the provincial government's decision to reverse the pending closures of several libraries and provincial court offices, parents and community members in Whitbourne are hoping to overturn a decision to close the town's elementary school.

Members of the Help Whitbourne Elementary Committee will be presenting legal arguments against the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District's decision to close Whitbourne Elementary in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wade Smith, chair of the committee, said in a statement that the original decisions to close libraries, courts and schools were "made without thorough research, facts or adequate consultations with affected stakeholders."

The committee hopes to use its legal arguments to challenge the school review process and the authority of the NLESD Board of Trustees.
