C.B.S. mom Alice Taylor wins school-bus battle
A Conception Bay South mother who raised a fuss over her children being stopped from riding the local school bus says the school board has reversed the decision, just hours after she spoke to CBC Monday.
"I give them credit where credit is due for acting pretty quick on the situation for us," said a relieved Alice Taylor.
Taylor organized an online petition and spoke out after learning her two children were among those no longer able to ride the bus to St. George's Elementary as of Nov. 12, due to overcrowding. The Taylors live just within the 1.6 kilometre cutoff for busing.
Taylor said school administrators, Newfoundland English School District officials, and the bus company met Monday and agreed to bus the children, as well as add another bus to the route if needed.
"With the online petition, and a lot of upset parents — as well as myself — contacting the school board, I wouldn't have been able to do it without all their support, and calling the school board and calling the school," said Taylor.
"We all stuck together to fight for what we need, and it's the safety of our children."
