CBC documentary on Beaumont-Hamel debuts at The Rooms
More than 150 people took in a special Tuesday night screening of CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's Trail of the Caribou, a film that documents the role of the Royal Newfoundand Regiment during the Great War.
Starring a Holy Trinity of Newfoundland and Labrador celebrities — Mark Critch, Alan Doyle and Allan Hawco — the film talks about Beaumont-Hamel as well as other lesser known battles fought by the regiment.
Crews travelled to Europe last year to film the documentary, following in the footsteps of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment through Turkey, France and Belgium along the Trail of the Caribou.
"This is one of the most important documentaries that we've undertaken in many years," said Denise Wilson, the CBC's senior managing director for Atlantic Canada.
"The story of Beaumont-Hamel and World War One touches the lives of so many Newfoundland and Labrador families and it's important we keep that story in the hearts and minds of today's generation."
The film was also screened on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Theatre in St. John's for more than a thousand students.
