Liberal MP Gerry Byrne said over Twitter that he won't be making the switch from federal to provincial politics.

He said he understands the importance of a leader holding a seat in the House of Assembly, and it is possible the west coast may not have a vacancy before the next election in 2015.

Byrne's fellow MP Scott Simms was considering the leadership run in January, but has since rejected the idea.
