Businessman Jim Burton to seek federal Liberal nomination

St. John's businessman Jim Burton is getting a head start on the 2015 federal election, by announcing that he is seeking the Liberal nomination in St. John's South-Mount Pearl. 

Burton, a long-time real estate broker and community volunteer, made the announcement in St. John's on Wednesday surrounded by family, friends and political supporters. 

"Anyone who is involved in politics needs to listen to the people," Burton said.

​"And it is important for me to get out there and listen to what the people have. Collect those ideas and put them into action — and get some results."

The St. John's South-Mount Pearl seat is currently held by New Democrat Ryan Cleary.  

Mount Pearl Mayor Randy Simms has also been rumoured to be interested in the Liberal nomination. 

Liberal Siobhan Coady, who held the seat before Cleary, announced last week she will not run federally in 2015.
