The body of a missing hunter has been recovered on the Northern Peninsula after the boat he was in overturned.

Rocky Harbour RCMP got a call around 7 p.m. Monday about an overturned boat near Parsons Pond.

According to police, four men were flown by float plane to an isolated moose hunting camp near Goosney's Pond by area outfitters where they arrived early Monday morning.

The RCMP said the men left on a 12-foot boat to go across Goosney's Pond around 3:30 p.m where they ran into trouble in the middle of the pond, the boat took on water and overturned.

According to a news release, three of the men were were wearing life jackets and were able to either hold on to the boat or swim to safety.

However, the fourth man was not wearing a life jacket, was lost and presumed drown.

Police said the men were in the water for nearly four hours before they were able to reach safety and use a satellite phone to call for help.

Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor.

The RCMP confirmed Tuesday morning that the man's body has been found and the family has been notified.
