Suspect in custody after stabbing at Bay Roberts Dollarama
Police have confirmed a woman is in hospital after she was stabbed Tuesday morning at a shopping centre in Bay Roberts.
A 33-year-old woman was attacked with a knife at the Dollarama store inside the Bay Roberts Mall.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
She was stabbed in the head and the leg, according to a witness to the attack.
RCMP say a 45-year-old man was taken into custody without incident following the stabbing.
According to police, the man and the woman were in a relationship.
A witness told CBC News a bystander tried to stop the alleged attacker, putting him in a headlock.
The RCMP issued a news release at noon, saying they received a report of a stabbing at around 10:30 a.m.
There is no ongoing risk to the public, police said.
The man is set to appear in provincial court in Harbour Grace Wednesday.
