From Middle Earth to Pouch Cove: Atlantic Union's new album heads Homeward
Have a First Listen to Homeward by Atlantic Union
On Atlantic Union's third album, Homeward, band member Dan Rubin has finally revisited a song he created a half century ago during his obsession with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Rubin wrote Roads Go Ever On as the theme song for a 12-part campus radio play version of The Hobbit he produced while he was a college student in Oregon in 1967.
"I actually corresponded with Tolkien at the time," said Rubin.
"I have a letter from him in a safety deposit box."
Rubin, along with bandmates Sally Goddard and Jane Ogilvie, recorded Road Go Ever On as a track on Atlantic Union`s latest album, Homeward.
Homeward also features several other original songs, and some traditional and folk music standards.
Rubin acknowledged that Atlantic Union's folky, acoustic sound would be a good fit for a performance space in Middle Earth.
"Or Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove," said Goddard.
"Or even in Pouch Cove where I live," agreed Rubin.
