Alleged sex assaults over 6 weeks leads to charges

A St. John's man has been charged with sexually assaulting and threatening a girl under the age of 16.

A St. John's man has been charged with sexually assaulting and threatening a girl under the age of 16.

Christopher Ford Butt, 38, faces a number of sex-related offences against the girl, including aggravated sexual assault.

He's also accused of sexual interference and threatening the girl, whose age was not released.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the incidents took place over a six-week period.

Butt has only been charged with two incidents — on June 20 and 23, 2014.

However, he may be facing additional charges.

According to the RNC, the female victim was known to Butt.

Butt has a criminal history from western and central Newfoundland, dating back 20 years.
