Air aid offered for ice-bound Labrador town
Residents of a southern Labrador community who have been stranded by ice will be receiving financial assistance for air travel, the Newfoundland and Labrador government said Friday.
Residents of a southern Labrador community who have been stranded by ice will be receiving financial assistance for air travel, the Newfoundland and Labrador government said Friday.
Ice breaking up near Williams Harbour has prohibited travel by ferry and snowmobile. About 50 people live in the community.
Transportation Minister Trevor Taylor said the government will immediately provide a subsidy of 50 per cent of the cost of air travel between Williams Harbour and Port Hope Simpson.
The subsidy will be available for travel once a week until ferry service begins June 9, Taylor said.
The government provided a similar subsidy in January.
