Everything from prisons to daycare centres are included on a master list of food inspection reports made available online by the Newfoundland and Labrador government.

Inspection reports dating back two years were posted on the Service NL website on Monday, adding to the list of restaurant inspections that were published in 2012.

Inspectors were checking to see if locations complied with food safety and facility sanitation legislation. Those findings are detailed online.

The reports also note what directives inspectors issued and if the problems were corrected.

The reports will be updated monthly, as inspections continue to be made.

The additional reports come just months after Memorial University students posted concerns about food safety at the campus cafeteria. Students later learned that critical problems were undisclosed to the public, as the reports weren't readily available.

Here are five areas — other than restaurants — where food safety reports are available online.

1. Schools and pre-schools

If parents or students have concerns about sanitation and food safety at their school, all reports are now available online. Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and other secondary schooling facilities that have food on the premises are all included under 'institutional inspections.' Daycare centres and early childhood education businesses are included and can be viewed by region.

2. Long-term care and personal care home facilities

Any observations noted by inspectors are listed in the reports, as well as what directives the facilities have been given to fix outstanding issues. If those issues aren't corrected, a secondary inspection notes if the care facilities are living up to expectations.

3. Correctional facilities

Jails across Newfoundland and Labrador serve meals to inmates daily. Critical items like the presence of rodents was noted and swiftly corrected at Her Majesty's Penitentiary

4. Hospitals

Just last month, inspectors instructed the Waterford Hospital in St. John's to repair all worn or damaged surfaces in two units. All hospital reports are now available.

5. Breweries

Labatt, Molsons and Quidi Vidi Breweries are not without their visits from Service NL inspectors — despite the fact that food isn't prepared or served at the locations. Proper ventilation, bathroom cleanliness and mould are all things inspectors look for during a visit to a brewery.
