2016 marks 27th edition of festival
Organizers unveiled the full lineup for the 2016 edition of the St. John's International Women's Film Festival (SJIWFF) Monday morning.
The 27th edition of the festival kicks off with The River of My Dreams: A Portrait of Gordon Pinsent, a portrait of the icon from Grand Falls-Windsor who went on to national acting acclaim. The film, directed by Brigitte Berman, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.

Another TIFF premiere — featuring another famed Canadian artist — will close out the St. John's film festival: Maudie, a shot-in-Newfoundland biopic about Nova Scotian painter Maudie Lewis. The movie stars Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins and was directed by Aisling Walsh.
Other showings include Angry Inuk, a documentary detailing the Inuit seal hunt, as well as Away From Everywhere, a movie based on St. John's writer Chad Pelley's novel of the same name and starring Jason Priestley.
Besides many other movies, SJIWFF will also feature workshops and seminars, with the full lineup available on its website. The festival runs from Oct. 19 to 23.
