"100 Men Who Give a Damn" is a non-profit group with branches across Canada, and the Newfoundland and Labrador wing has about 140 members.

Since they first got together a year ago, the group has donated about $65,000 to four local charities through their fundraising work.

Sean Stack, who helped raise money with the group, says Active Start is a worthy recipient.

"It's a great group, they do great work for kids zero to six years old who need to get out and get fit," he said.

"It seemed to resonate with the members who were in attendance, and they got the most votes."

Active Start founder Simon Blanks says the organization is leading the fight against child obesity and diabetes, and the donated money will help them create more space so more kids can get active.

"It's limitless. It's massive," he said.

"We're a leading light in the fight against childhood obesity and diabetes and we have the biggest gymnasium in Atlantic Canada as far as I'm aware and the kids get to go in there and play for free."
