A team from New Brunswick has captured the world senior men's curling championship.

The team skipped by Wayne Tallon of Fredericton defeated Sweden 7-2 Wednesday to win the title in Dumfries, Scotland, capping an undefeated week.

Tallon is joined by Mike Kennedy, Mike Flannery and Wade Blanchard.

“I’m just lost for words — really ecstatic about it,” said Tallon. “I’m really happy at how the boys played. They played really hard, so it feels good.

"We were patient. We were trying to score soft deuces without too much risk and we were able to do that – textbook curling – take two and give up one, take two and give up one," he said.

“That was the plan, that was the way we executed it and that’s the way it turned out.”

The Tallon foursome was in control throughout the game against Sweden's Connie Östlund.

It is the ninth time Canada has won the world senior men's championship.

Colleen Pinkney's team from Truro, N.S. reached the championship game in the women's bracket at the senior championships, but fell 6-5 to Scotland on Wednesday.

Scotland's Christine Cannon stole two in the final end to claim the title.

Wendy Currie, Shelley MacNutt and Susan Creelman join Pinkney on the team from Truro.
