A Hoyt man had to be rescued in a boat on Wednesday night after his SUV flipped over and landed on its roof below Route 101, which was washed out by the rain storm that hit the province.

Patrick Morrison was driving down Route 101 when he realized the rural road was washed out.

"He was going to feed his friend's dog and there was no road," said Chrissy Gillet, who lives in Hoyt.

"There was no warning or anything that there was no road."

Morrison, who is in his mid-30s, was driving his blue Chevrolet Blazer when it went off the road. The area was so badly flooded at the time of the accident that he had to be be brought to an ambulance by boat.

"They had a boat waiting for him on the other side in the valley to get him in an ambulance," said Gillet.

"He has to go back in a few days to see if there are any internal injuries."

Gillet said it was impossible to get out of Hoyt on Thursday morning and there's no telling when the water levels will decrease.

"It depends on how fast the water drops … if they have the Mactaquac dam open it holds it in longer," she said.
