Tobique-Mactaquac elects Liberal T.J. Harvey
Conservative MP Mike Allen retired, leaving the western New Brunswick riding without an incumbent
The western riding of Tobique-Mactaquac elected Liberal T.J. Harvey in Monday night's election.
The four candidates running in the riding were Conservative Richard Bragdon, NDP candidate Robert Kitchen, Harvey and Green candidate Terry Wishart.
The lead changed hands several times on election night before Harvey was declared elected, after capturing 46 per cent of the vote with 134 of 186 polls reporting.
Bragdon captured 37.7 of the vote.
New Democrat Robert Kitchen received 11.1 per cent of the vote, while Green candidate Terry Wishart had 5 per cent.
The riding stretches from just outside Fredericton, along the Upper St. John River Valley to St. Andre.
There was no incumbent heading into Monday's election. Conservative Mike Allen won the riding with about 300 votes in 2006, but after that he won the riding with 57 per cent and 62 per cent of the vote in 2008 and 2011.
Tobique-Mactaquac was one of the New Brunswick ridings that flipped to the Progressive Conservatives in 1997, but then had a period of tight three-way races between the Liberals, Canadian Alliance and Tories.
