Tiny 'the wonder cat' sheds 4 pounds in 4 weeks
Diet plan devised for cat that weighed 30 pounds
A fat feline that sparked a social media frenzy in January has shed almost four pounds in four weeks after being dropped off at the Fredericton SPCA.
Dubbed a "wonder cat" by the SPCA, Tiny weighed more than 30 pounds, three times the size of a normal cat, when he was left at the animal shelter in a large box on Dec. 30.
The Fredericton SPCA was concerned about Tiny’s long-term health, because obesity is a risk factor for feline diabetes, breathing problems and arthritis.
The cat was given to a foster owner, who is helping Tiny adjust to a new diet and regular exercise.
Dr. Nicole Jewett, a veterinarian at Valley Veterinary Hospital in Fredericton, said she is pleased with the cat’s weight loss.
The goal is to have Tiny lose close to one pound each month until he reaches a healthier weight.
Tiny sparked a social media sensation last month as videos of the cat spread around the internet.
The interest has led to help for the SPCA in paying for his care, including diet food donated by a local supporter.
