Suspicious death was female patient
No word on cause of death
Police say the person found dead at the Saint John Regional Hospital early Wednesday was a female patient.
The major crime unit continues to investigate the suspicious death, Sgt. Glen Hayward stated in a news release Thursday.
The victim's name will not be released at the family's request, he said.
Police are not releasing any information about the cause of death. It will "remain with the investigational team at this time while evidence is being analyzed," Hayward said.
Police were called to the hospital at 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday and remained on the scene much of the day.
"The investigation thus far has gleaned many interviews, forensic collection and analysis, pathology, and technical support," Hayward said.
He has declined to reveal whether anyone is in custody in connection with the death.
The Horizon Health Network will be conducting its own review and is co-operating fully with the police investigation, said spokeswoman Sonya Green-Haché.
"As a result, we're not able to provide any further information," she told CBC News on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it's business as usual at the hospital, she stressed.
"Again, this incident has not impacted daily operations of the hospital, including visitors accessing the hospital," Green-Haché said.
