Regent Street overpass opens in Fredericton after delays
Route 8 will remain at 2 lanes as work continues on substructure
After a protracted summer of irritation for Fredericton drivers the end is in sight — the Regent Street overpass opened Wednesday evening, but construction on the substructure will continue into October.
Both the overpass and the adjacent intersection at Regent and Prospect streets underwent significant construction starting in the beginning of June. Work on the intersection was largely completed on time earlier this month, but the underpass opening had been delayed multiple times.
The overpass allows motorists the most direct access to the city's largest shopping mall and other shopping complexes, as well as to the neighbouring community of New Maryland.
