Province spending $600K on rabies vaccination in Charlotte County

The province is spending $600,000 on an oral rabies vaccination program taking place between Aug. 21 and 23 in the Charlotte County area.

The bait will be dropped by an airplane flying at an altitude of about 200 metres

The province is spending $600,000 on an oral rabies vaccination program taking place between Aug. 21 and 23 in the Charlotte County area.

The program involves distributing bait that contains a rabies vaccine and it is effective only for raccoons and skunks.

Since May 2014, 20 cases of rabies have been confirmed in these animals in the Charlotte County area.

The bait will be dropped by an airplane flying at an altitude of about 200 metres.

Exposure to the bait is not harmful to pets or humans.
