For many New Brunswickers, the loss of power is becoming an all-too familiar occurrence and they are losing confidence in the electrical grid.

Keith Murch’s inlaws lived off generator power after post-tropical storm Arthur for one week. It made him decide to put a generator hook up in his house.

“It never really crossed my mind too much before until this summer after Arthur,” he said.

Murch isn’t the only one interested in generators.

At the Canadian Tire in north Fredericton, general manager Mike Symonds says the manufacturers that produce generators have had a hard time keeping up with demand.

“It seems like since Arthur that the sales of generators have just skyrocketed,” he said.

NB Power says it expects to get power back for 85 per cent of customers by Thursday evening and 99 per cent by Friday night. The remaining one per cent will be contacted directly by NB Power.
