New Brunswick weather: Eastern schools remain closed after storm

Many schools across southern and eastern New Brunswick are closed again on Tuesday or have delayed their buses as communities continue to clean up after Sunday’s blizzard.

Many schools across southern and eastern New Brunswick are closed again on Tuesday or have delayed their buses as communities continue to clean up after Sunday’s blizzard.

Eastern New Brunswick received the highest snowfall amounts on Sunday, with places, such as Moncton, seeing roughly 60 centimetres of fresh snow on the ground.

Slippery roads and the poor weather conditions have closed schools in:

  • Anglophone East School District has closed all schools
  • Anglophone North School District has closed schools in Rexton/Harcourt, Miramichi and Janeville
  • Anglophone South School District has closed schools in Hampton and Sussex. Buses elsewhere are one-hour late
  • Sussex Christian School closed today
  • Francophone South School District has closed its eastern schools. Schools in Fredericton, Oromocto and Saint John are open. The district’s buses in Saint John buses are running one-hour late
  • Francophone North-East School District has closed schools in the Acadian Peninsula

While many schools are closed, NB Power is reporting about 700 power outages in the province, as of 11 a.m. The largest outage is in Sackville, where 684 customers were without power.

There had been more than 3,000 customers without power on Monday.

Environment Canada has ended all of its weather advisories for the province.
