New Brunswick unemployment rate hit 11 per cent in July, according to Statistics Canada's monthly labour force report.

The jobless rate is an increase from 10.8 per cent in June.

Statistics Canada's monthly labour force report also said the province shed 700 jobs last month.

The job numbers deviated wildly based on whether they were full time or part time.

There was an increase of 4,500 full-time jobs in July but 5,200 part-time jobs were lost, according to the report.

New Brunswick's jobless rate was not the highest in Atlantic Canada.

Prince Edward Island's unemployment rate stood at 11.6 per cent and Newfoundland and Labrador's was 11.9 per cent. Meanwhile, Nova Scotia's jobless rate was the lowest in the region at 8.1 per cent.

By comparison, the Canadian economy created 6,600 jobs in July, Statistics Canada reported today, roughly in line with economists' expectations.

The unemployment rate remained at 6.8 per cent for the sixth straight month.
