NDP staffer questions Brian Gallant at Liberal press conference
Liberals unhappy with stunt; NDP leader Dominic Cardy says he is supportive of the move
The NDP found itself answering questions about a stunt it pulled today after it sent a staffer to question Liberal leader Brian Gallant at his own press conference.
Kathleen Heaney, the campaign manager for NDP candidate Brian Duplessis, handed Gallant a calculator and criticized his campaign.
“One thing that Mr. Gallant and the Conservatives don’t seem to understand is that corporate handouts, corporate welfare are not stimulus packages, they do not keep business here in the province,” she said.
NDP leader Dominic Cardy was supportive of the move and said it was a lighthearted way to talk about an important subject.
“We wanted to draw attention to the fact that the Liberal party, despite the huge resources available to it is continuing to make serious factual mistakes in the way that it's presenting itself in the last few days of the campaign,” he said.
Not surprisingly, the Liberals were not fans of the stunt.
“We've asked a few questions of Dominic Cardy and his plans. We think that his platform is not properly costed, there are six promises alone that leave about [a] $300 million gap. We think he has no plan to create jobs and his reaction to this, instead of answering our questions is to send a political staffer to interrupt our speech. I think that's a bit unfortunate, it doesn't help the discussion or the debate,” said Gallant.
