Fraudsters tell customers to make urgent payment to avoid having power disconnected
NB Power is warning its customers about a telephone scam again after receiving "several" calls from customers who have been targeted recently.
The fraudsters, posing as NB Power employees, ask customers to make urgent payments by money order to avoid having their power disconnected.
The same scam surfaced last December.
Anyone who receives such a call is urged to report the incident immediately to their local police force, the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, NB Power said in a statement.
The utility is also reminding customers to be cautious when receiving telephone calls requesting financial information or offering products and services.
If customers doubt they are speaking with an NB Power employee, they can hang up and call or email the utility directly.
