Fire at AIM recycling plant in Fredericton contained
The cause of the fire is under investigation

A fire broke out at an American Iron and Metal recycling plant on Fredericton's north side on Thursday, resulting in heavy smoke and an air quality advisory for nearby residents.
The fire has been extinguished and the air advisory has been lifted.
Justin McGuigan, public information officer for the City of Fredericton, said the fire department received a call just before 3 p.m. about a fire at 400 Carman Avenue.
"Crews were able to contain the fire to a trailer and a small pile of scrap metal," said McGuigan.

He said an air advisory was issued given the contents of the blaze, which included metal.
"The smoke was a little bit lazy and hovering to the ground, so we wanted to make sure we could protect the health of folks in the area," said McGuigan.
That advisory was lifted just after 4:30 p.m.

McGuigan said the fire, which is under investigation, was relatively small for a commercial fire.
"It was nowhere near the size of the fire that took place in Saint John," he said, referring to the Sept. 14, 2023, fire at an AIM metal recycling plant.
That fire lasted two days and prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for the city.
