N.B. announces deal with AECL
The province announced Wednesday it's chosen Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and a group of private nuclear companies to study the potential for a second nuclear reactor in New Brunswick.
The province announced Wednesday it's chosen Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and a group of private nuclear companies to study the potential for a second nuclear reactor in New Brunswick.
The group, known as Team Candu,will examine the market potential for a new Candu ACR-1000 reactor, which would be located on the same site as the Point Lepreau generating station near Saint John.
Patrick Lamarre, president and CEO of SNC-Lavalin Nuclear, one of the partners in the group, said he expects the feasibility study will show there's a strong market for electricity in New England.
The feasibility study should be completed within six months, anda new reactorcould be generating power before the end of 2016.
