Results in for municipal byelections, plebiscite in New Brunswick
Rural community of Rogersville soundly rejected
Voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea of creating the rural community of Rogersville on Monday, while seven other New Brunswick communities elected new members to their municipal councils.
The plebiscite in the Rogersville area of eastern New Brunswick would have seen several local service districts and parishes form a rural community. The proposal was defeated 844 to 286.
One of the more notable council elections occurred in Saint John's Ward 3 to fill the seat vacated by Liberal MLA Gerry Lowe, who left city council to run in the September provincial election.
David Hickey was the victor in the seven-candidate race, earning more than twice the votes of his nearest challenger, Andrew Costin.
