Dozens of families in Moncton scrambled to find daycare for their children Wednesday after the province shut down the EduCare facility.

Kim MacLean has been running the daycare with her mother for 10 years. She says the province forced them to close after two former employees made serious accusations.

One allegation was that a child was left in an empty room as a form of discipline.

"I wish I had the answers because I might feel a little bit better inside. I might be able to tell the parents why. But I don't have an answer," said MacLean.

"You cannot accuse me of something that there is no evidence for."

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development said the details of the closure are private.

"Where the minister is of the opinion that a daycare is of inadequate quality or dangerous, destructive or damaging to the children attending a daycare, the minister is required to take action," the department said in a news release.

MacLean let go all 20 employees. She says she's talking to a lawyer and plans to reopen.

"We have 88 children in here, 40 children in our other centre. All in all, 150 children. You would have to logically think 20 employees and 150 families would say something if there was something wrong," she said.
