Moncton medical pot facility getting final inspection

An industrial medical marijuana growing facility is undergoing final inspections by Health Canada, and the man behind the operation says he’s confident he’ll be selling pot in a matter of weeks.  

Jim Laffoley, the chief executive of Moncton-based OrganiGram Inc., wants to open a 22,000 square foot medical marijuana facility. He said he’s already getting plenty of calls from the public.

"We get inquiries from people that run the gamut from want to sell us something to people who are in the existing program and are looking for a local supplier because it's important for them to keep the business in Atlantic Canada," he said.

"And we hear from people who have difficulty in accepting the program and what it represents."

Laffoley has been pre-approved by Health Canada and final inspections are underway. He said he hopes to be up and running by the end of March.

Health Canada says more than 400 applications to grow medical marijuana have been submitted.

Laffoley said he's prepared to triple the size of his operation in the next 18 months, if the market demands it.
