Canadian opera star Measha Brueggergosman announced the birth of her second child on Monday.

Sterling Markus Brueggergosman was born on Monday in Halifax and named after his maternal grandfather, Rev. Sterling Gosman, and his father, Markus Brueggergosman.

Both mother and baby boy are said to be in excellent health.

"We are truly blessed to have a new addition to our family. Sincerest and heartfelt thanks to the hardworking nurses and doctors of the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre and the IWK Health Centre for all their care and support," Brueggergosman said in a statement.

The Grammy-nominated, Juno-winning soprano is originally from Fredericton. However, the Brueggergosman family moved to Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley two years ago.

Her first son, Shepherd Peter Brueggergosman, was born in 2012.

The internationally acclaimed soprano has a busy summer schedule planned.

She's due to perform in Brazil, Spain, Austria, Norway, Rome, Quebec and Toronto, beginning in late May.
