Tuesday will be a cloudy and mild day in New Brunswick, says CBC meteorologist Jim Abraham, with rain and the highest tides of the year, brought about by the supermoon, expected on Wednesday.

Temperatures will reach double digit highs between 10 C and 14 C in many communities.

"Scattered showers will develop in western sections of the Maritimes this evening and spread across the region overnight," Abraham said.

"More frequent showers or periods of rain will follow on Wednesday... again a mild day Wednesday with temperatures reaching 12 to 15 C."

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Fundy National Park, Grand Manan and Coastal Charlotte County, Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick and Saint John and County.

The supermoon will mean that high tide, expected near noon on Wednesday in the Bay of Fundy, will be the largest tide of the year.

"Storm surge and waves from the low will combine with the high tide and result in higher than normal water levels for most of the Bay of Fundy," the statement says.

"There is also a possibility of heavy rain from this storm starting overnight tonight and ending Wednesday afternoon or evening."

While supermoons are not uncommon, every 14th full moon is a supermoon, a supermoon this size hasn't been seen since 1948 and another like it won't come around until 2034.

Thursday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with sunshine expected on Friday.
