J.K. Irving's wealth jumps to $6.5B, Forbes Magazine says
J.K. Irving is 216th on the list of the world's billionnaires, while Arthur Irving is 271st
Two members of the Irving family are ranked in the top 10 richest Canadians in Forbes Magazine's annual list of the world's billionaires.
Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, was at the top of the list with an estimated net worth of $79.2 billion.
The top Canadian, David Thomson, was worth $25.5 billion. Two New Brunswickers, meanwhile, were also on the yearly ranking of the world's richest people.
J.K. Irving jumped to 216 on the billionaires' list from 234 last year. His estimated worth climbed to $6.5 billion from $6 billion last year.
J.K. Irving owns J.D. Irving Ltd., which controls several businesses in sectors, such as forestry, transportation and shipbuilding.
Meanwhile, Arthur Irving's estimated worth remained about $5.5 billion, which was enough to drop him to 271 from 256 on last year’s list. Arthur Irving owns Irving Oil Ltd.
Forbes’s 2014 list was the first time the magazine listed the brothers separately, reflecting the dividing up of the Irving companies.
