Heat alert planned for Fredericton
Fredericton is planning to issue a heat alert as temperatures in parts of New Brunswick are expected to reach the low 30s again on Wednesday.
Environment Canada said temperatures on Tuesday were about seven degrees above normal.
"Certainly the warmest day of the year," said climatologist Dave Phillips. "With that tropical kind of air, it'll feel like a jungle out there."
High temperatures and high humidity bring the risk of heat-related illness, medical officials warn.
There are obvious symptoms to look for, said Fredericton's medical officer, Dr. Cristin Muecke. "Things like fatigue, headaches, feeling sick to your stomach, muscle cramps. These are warning signs."
Muecke advises avoiding strenuous activity during the day, drinking plenty of liquids and avoiding alcohol and caffeine during the heat wave.
