A Fredericton businessman is looking for the Good Samaritan who returned the $5,000 in cash he mistakenly left at a bank machine.

David Halfyard, who owns The Cabin restaurant, took his money pouch, containing the cash and tax receipts, to the ATM earlier this week.

He didn’t realize he had left it there until the bank called later to say an unknown woman had found the money and turned it in.

"She had to know it was money – she was at an ATM," he said.

"I don’t know if she opened it, I don’t know if she just turned it in as the right thing to do, but I’d like to thank her for doing the right thing."

"There’s a lot of bad news, and every once in a while, something like this happens."

Halfyard is hoping his mystery hero comes forward so he can thank her in person.
