Last July, council had voted to cancel both the 18 and 20 routes as part of an effort to increase the frequency of other routes, but then decided to keep them for at least 12 months, following a public outcry.

City staff had been asked to come up with new options. But Coun. John MacDermid, who is the transportation committee chairman, says council members have since asked for more information.

"We had plenty of options in front of us in terms of how the Lincoln-Silverwood run was going to be addressed, but really it was a matter of stepping back and saying, 'We need to clearly articulate a larger vision of how we see transit fitting into the larger mobility issue within the city."

MacDermid says there is a lot of support on council to maintain the two routes in the long-term.

A final decision will be made in January.
