A 10-kilogram piece of concrete that fell from the Princess Margaret Bridge in Fredericton shut down the Lincoln Road for more than an hour on Sunday night.
A vehicle was passing underneath at the time, but Fredericton police say there were no damages or injuries.
It appears the netting set up to catch falling debris had come apart during the winter and that allowed the 10-kilogram chunk to fall to the road.
An inspector from the Department of Transportation was called. Repairs were made and the road was reopened on Sunday night.
The 1,098-metre Princess Margaret Bridge opened in 1959 and crosses the St. John River.
The Department of Transportation ordered weight restrictions on the bridge in November 2008.
