Karen Ludwig welcomes federal cabinet in St. Andrews

The rookie member of Parliament who is hosting the federal cabinet in St. Andrews Monday says "It's been a great couple of days."

"I'm very proud and very honoured that the first outside-of-Ottawa cabinet meeting would be in my riding, in particular in my backyard — I actually just live three streets down," said New Brunswick Southwest MP Karen Ludwig.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of the federal cabinet began arriving in the province on the weekend in preparation for today's meeting at the Algonquin Resort.

The community is invited to a spaghetti supper tonight as cabinet members hold meetings at the local resort."The government has a commitment [of] getting back into the communities, listening to Canadians, and this is certainly one example of it," said Ludwig on an Information Morning broadcast from St. Andrews.

"It truly is an opportunity to help this riding and this area shine."

Ludwig said she has been able to talk with ministers about local issues of concern, such as reopening the science library at the Fisheries and Oceans Canada biological station in St. Andrews.

"I have met with many of the ministers and talked about issues and opportunities that are important to us in this riding," said Ludwig. 

"It's great. They're on the ground. They're seeing it, they're experiencing it. They have a visual. They have a memory."
