A Baie Verte man has slashed his driving costs by purchasing an electric car and installing solar panels at his home.

Marc Spence purchased a 2014 Nissan Leaf last May for about $35,000.

So he no longer has to pay for gasoline, and he is also building up a free supply of fuel at home, thanks to the panels.

“I drive for free because I have solar panels on that roof,” he said.

With no fuel costs, and no oil or filters to change, Spence said he feels his decision to become a green motorist has been well worth the investment.
