Child left alone in car in blistering heat
Police were called to a parking lot in Moncton on Thursday after a child was spotted unattended in the back seat of a vehicle.
A customer at the Home Depot noticed a crying child in the back of a car with a dog and contacted a security guard, Codiac RCMP Cpl. Mike Gaudet said.
Temperatures in the city were hovering around 30 C on Thursday afternoon.
The father of the boy, who was under two years old, was interviewed when police arrived at the scene, Gaudet said. The man told officers the child had only been left unattended for "a minute or two."
"We spoke with the parent responsible, if you will, and discovered that the infant was left in the back seat of the vehicle with the windows down," he said.
Police are now speaking to witnesses to determine how long the boy was left alone.
Gaudet said the child was crying but did not require medical attention.
