19-year-old man dies after 'car surfing' tumble

A 19-year-old Saint-Irénée man has died early Friday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a car surfing accident.

21-year-old driver of SUV near Tracadie to appear in court

A 19-year-old man died Friday afternoon as a result of injuries suffered in a car-surfing accident near Tracadie, Northeast RCMP say.

The incident took place Thursday at an old firing range near Leech, about 10 kilometres southwest of Tracadie-Sheila.

Police say the teenager, from nearby Saint-Irénée, was one of two men standing on the rear bumper of a moving SUV when he fell off at about 1:15 a.m.

The 21-year-old driver of the SUV was arrested Thursday and later released with a promise to appear in court.

The man is scheduled to appear in Tracadie provincial court on Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
