Fortis Inc. has decided to put all of its real estate subsidiary's assets up for sale, including three high profile buildings in New Brunswick.

Fortis Properties owns Brunswick Square in Saint John, Kings Place in Fredericton and the Blue Cross Centre in Moncton.

All of them will be put up for sale, along with the Maritime Centre in Halifax and 14 properties in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Saint John Coun. Gerry Lowe says it would be devastating for the city to lose Brunswick Square.

"We would be minus conventions. We would be minus so many things here because there's not enough room to put the people in," said Lowe.

"And the Delta and the Hilton feed everything into the Pedway and we have our things off the pedway," said Lowe.

"So we would be hurt real bad."

Nora Duke, the president and chief executive officer of Fortis Properties, has said the future of Brunswick Square, including the Delta Hotel would be up to the new owner.

But she says a new owner would likely consider keeping the property similar to the way it is now.

Beyond that, Fortis Properties isn't commenting on the decision to sell its properties.
