Bay of Fundy soft-shell clams may contain toxin

The entire southwestern area of New Brunswick is closed to bi-valve harvesting because of the high levels of paralytic shellfish toxin.

Therehave beenno reports of poisonings associated with the clams, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

In severe cases, the toxin can cause muscle and respiratory paralysis or death.

Customers are urged to check where clams, mussels and other bi-valves were harvested before buying.
