NDP Promises to Take a Second Look at P3 Schools
The leader of the Nova Scotia New Democrats says an NDP government would not sign any more deals for P3 school construction.
Before the liberal government fell it had announced it would be building 55 new schools in Nova Scotia through public-private partnerships.
But NDP Leader Robert Chisholm says P3 school construction will cost more than $600 million - and that's a waste of money.
Chisholm says his party estimates that publicly financing those 55 schools would have saved taxpayers about $36 million.
He's also promising to review controversial decisions about sites for P3 schools in the Annapolis Valley and Northern Nova Scotia.
Chisholm says the bottom line is the New Democrats would sign no new P3 deals and would review the existing ones to see if changes could be made without serious financial penalties.
