Volkswagen, Audi class action requests continue in Quebec
One filing seeks a total of $150,000 000 in compensation
A total of three requests for class action lawsuits against German automaker Volkswagen have now been filed in Quebec after revelations the company fitted cars with software to cheat emissions tests.
All the requests were filed last week, two in Montreal and one in Quebec City.
All three have been filed on behalf of anyone in Quebec who rented or purchased any of the following models of diesel vehicle:
- Jetta
- Golf
- Beetle
- Passat
- Audi A3
The precise model years vary in the three different requests, but they cover a range of model years from 2009-2015
The request filed in Quebec was by the law firm Siskinds, Desmeules, on behalf of a Lévis man, Jean-François Gallant.
That suit is seeking an estimated total of $150 million in damages to be split among potential plaintiffs.
A suit filed by the firm Belleau Lapointe is on behalf of a Sherbrooke man, François Grondin. That suit is seeking $5,000 per client.
A third suit, filed by the firm Kugler Kandestin on behalf of Sylvain Juneau of Repentigny, is seeking $10,000 per client.
All three requests have yet to be approved by the court.
As to which law firm will stand to benefit from the potentially lucrative class action, that depends. In some situations, cases can proceed independently or the plaintiff or court will decide which case goes forward.
