Quebec's Transport Ministry has unveiled its five-year plan for the construction of the new Turcot Interchange.

The work to dismantle the current interchange will be done over the next four years.

The new Turcot will provide a direct access to Highway 20 from Angrignon Boulevard and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.

''The current situation creates major traffic problems on Notre-Dame Street and Angrignon Boulevard,'' said Sandra Sultana, assistant director of the Turcot project at the Transport Ministry.

Assistant director for the KPH-Turcot Consortium Sébastien Marcoux said traffic situations will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.

"We make sure that we adjust if needed whether it's modifying the synchronization of traffic lights, whether it's using the police forces at certain intersections, whether it's even adding, in certain instances, temporary traffic lights," Marcoux said.

The new structure is scheduled to be ready by the fall of 2020.

In the meantime, the work site will stretch from St-Pierre Avenue and Angrignon Boulevard as crews tear down the existing Turcot piece by piece.

Work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
